Hoag Earns Blue Distinction® Center Designation for Cardiac Care
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., February 12, 2019 --- Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian was recently recognized as a Blue Distinction® Center for Cardiac Care, as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated healthcare facilities shown to deliver improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community and leading accreditation and quality organizations.

To receive a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care designation, hospitals must demonstrate expertise in delivering safe and effective cardiac care, focusing on cardiac valve surgery, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) episodes of care, and are assessed using a combination of quality information supplied by hospitals and third party data registries, and cost measures derived from Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies’ medical claims.
Along with this prestigious recognition, Hoag’s Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute is one of the preeminent cardiovascular centers on the West Coast, having also been named one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the nation by IBM Watson Health™. In addition, Hoag’s Newport Beach and Irvine campuses are both designated Cardiovascular Receiving Centers (CVRC) by the Orange County Emergency Medical Services.
