Providence and Hoag Agree to End Affiliation
Both organizations remain deeply committed to meeting the health needs of Southern California
Orange County, Calif., Jan. 10, 2022 – Officials from Providence and Hoag today announced an agreement to amicably end the affiliation they established in 2012. The two organizations have agreed to separate, with Hoag becoming independent from Providence and Covenant Health Network, the structure that governs the affiliation.
After nearly a decade together, leaders from Providence and Hoag believe a separation is the best path forward for each organization. Both remain deeply committed to improving the well-being of residents in Orange County and beyond by ensuring access to high quality, affordable health care.
“Although we are formally parting ways, we will have other opportunities to work together on behalf of the community. We look forward to future collaborations with our colleagues at Hoag, whom we continue to hold in high regard,” said Providence President of Operations Erik Wexler.

This move opens up new avenues of collaboration in the future, as each institution brings its unique strengths to bear in service of patient health," said Robert T. For decades, St. Joseph Health (now Providence) and Hoag have ensured Orange County is home to award-winning, quality care, and both organizations are committed to building upon these respective legacies for years to come.
The affiliation will officially end by Jan. 31, 2022, and the two health systems will work together to ensure a seamless transition. No other details of the agreement will be shared in accordance with the terms of a confidential settlement agreement between the Parties.
