Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is proud to train the next generation of Oncoplastic breast surgeons as the first Advanced Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship program in the United States. This one-year program will provide a broad multi-disciplinary clinical experience in all aspects of oncoplastic breast surgery. The fellow will receive in depth exposure in breast surgery and plastics and reconstructive surgery. The surgical training experience will cover level 1 and level 2 oncoplastic procedures. Breast imaging exposure includes training with fellowship trained breast imagers with experience in mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI, and various biopsy techniques. Graduates of the Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship at Hoag will have the tools and experience to utilize these techniques in their practice and qualify for ASBrS Oncoplastic Surgery certification.
Fellows can expect to complete an average of 350-400 oncoplastic surgery cases during their training year. Fellows will gain comprehensive experience in managing a variety of diagnoses, including invasive cancer, DCIS, benign conditions, and high-risk lesions. Fellows will perform diverse procedures including level 1 oncoplastic glandular advancement/rearrangement, crescent mastopexy, batwing, donut/Benelli mastopexy and level 2 circumvertical mastopexy and wise pattern reduction mammaplasty, and high level exposure to level 3 procedures involving volume replacement with LICAP, AICAP, etc. Additionally, fellows will gain experience in sentinel lymph node biopsy, and axillary lymph node dissection and master various mastectomy techniques (simple, nipple sparing, skin sparing, Goldilocks).
The fellow will be primarily based at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian’s Newport Beach campus, though some time may be spent on the Irvine campus. Approximately 90% of the fellow’s time will be dedicated to clinical service. Fellows are expected to report to work Monday-Friday, except approved holidays, and be available for emergency calls for patients under their care and responsibility.
Fellows will have approximately 10% of their time allocated towards clinical investigation. Each fellow will be mentored in an original research project with the goal of national/international presentation and publication.
There is one (1) position available for the 2026-2027 fellowship year.
