For Dr. Malek, surgery is about more than procedures, it’s about changing lives in the moments that matter most. His passion began during a college mission trip to Mexico, where he assisted in cleft palate surgeries for children who had no access to specialized care. Witnessing the immediate, life-changing results inspired him to pursue medicine and dedicate his career to helping patients in their most critical moments. Dr. Malek earned his medical degree from Michigan State University and completed his surgical training at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he developed strong expertise in robotic surgery, trauma, acute care surgery, and surgical oncology. He chose general surgery for its breadth and impact, treating life-threatening emergencies, removing cancer, and improving patients’ quality of life through definitive solutions. He joined Hoag to expand his robotic surgical practice and be closer to his family in Orange County. Dr. Malek believes every patient’s story matters, and he works closely with each person to create a treatment plan that respects their needs, values, and goals. Outside the operating room, he enjoys spending time with his wife and baby, biking, kayaking, swimming, traveling, and exploring scenic places with his drone.
