Endoscopic weight loss procedures are a newer type of minimally invasive, non-surgical procedures. A small, flexible scope with a camera and suturing device is inserted through the mouth, so there are no cuts or incisions needed. Generally, endoscopic procedures for weight loss have a lower risk of complications and quicker recovery time than surgery, so patients can recover at home rather than requiring an inpatient stay.
ESG is a minimally invasive weight loss procedure for people with no prior history of bariatric surgery. Hoag’s advanced endoscopists use an endoscopic suturing device to reduce the size and volume of the stomach by as much as 80%. On average, patients who choose to have an ESG lose 11-20% of total body weight over 6-12 months. This procedure is for patients without prior bariatric surgery.
Patients with prior history of bariatric surgery who experience weight regain may benefit from a weight loss procedure such as a Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORE) or a sleeve revision. These minimally invasive procedures are typically outpatient procedures with a recovery time of 3-5 days. Patients may experience remission of obesity-related diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and metabolic-associated liver disease.
Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORE) is a weight loss revision procedure performed on patients who have had a prior Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and have experienced weight regain. It’s a good option for patients who have developed an enlarged gastric pouch or who have a dilated stoma. Patients may lose 8-10% of their total body weight in 6-12 months.
A Sleeve Revision is a weight loss revision procedure performed on patients who have had a prior sleeve gastrectomy and have experienced weight regain. It is a good option for patients who have developed an enlarged sleeve. Patients may lose 12-15% of their total body weight in 6-12 months.
